Thank you Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie for being so gracious to recommend the Centre For Memories (CFM) to Friedrich Naumann Foundation as your organisation of choice to be awarded the project grant that accompanied the award bestowed on you in December 2020. This gesture demonstrates your commitment and support to CFM and Ndigbo and serves as motivation and encouragement to us.
The Centre is applying the grant to implement a project designed to instil timeless Igbo values in secondary school students in Anambra state. We aim to groom responsible, assertive, and self-confident children and youths who are proud of their heritage and who strive to uphold values that can positively impact our society, through this project.
The grant has enabled CFM to expand the project NZUKO UMUAKA, which started in 2018 in Enugu, where it is currently implemented with funding support from the Open Society Initiative for West Africa. With the FNF grant, we intend to implement the programme in Anambra state even as we aspire to take it across Nigeria’s South East region. With the project grant, we will:
• Set up the CFM History and Igbo Clubs (CHIC) in secondary schools in Anambra state where club members will learn Igbo language, history and stories of illustrious Ndigbo
• Host monthly meetings where club members will learn the above through folktales, storytelling, poetry, music, drama, dance, and many other similar activities
• Utilize social media and traditional media as platforms for promoting the above activities as tools for social transformation.
We hope that this project and other initiatives of the Centre would help us to achieve CFM’s mandate of documenting, preserving, archiving, promoting, showcasing Igbo history, culture, memories, and excellence.
The Centre welcomes support, partnerships, and collaborations from individuals and organizations towards the successful implementation of the Centre’s different programmes and initiatives.
